How to Interline Curtains

Sewing your own curtains is a good project interlining supplierto start with because the pattern is relatively straightforward. Adding lining to your curtains can create a more elegant and full look for your windows, and it helps keep the main fabric in good shape by adding sun protection. Add any kind of fabric you want as a lining, choosing from blackout type fabrics if you want extra privacy, or sheer fabrics to allow indirect sunlight into a sunny afternoon space. Most lining is offered in plain colors and styles, but trying a sheer pattern may add interest to the outside view.

Instructions

1 Measure your curtain rod and multiply the length by two. This createa a pattern for curtains curtain interliningthat are twice the width of the window. If your fabric is not wide enough, make two curtains for one window, making each the full width of the curtain rod.

2 Measure the length from the curtain rod location on the window to where you want your curtains to end. Add eight inches to this number to determine the length you should cut your fabric.

3 Cut out your main fabric using the width and length measurements. Subtract two inches from the main length, and cut the lining fabric to this length. Leave the width the same as the main fabric width.

4 Fold over the side edges of a piece of fabric 1/2 inch what is interliningon each side. Press with an iron, and then fold it over another 1/2 inch. Pin this edge. Sew a straight line to secure it all the way down on each side. Do this for each piece of main fabric and lining.

5 Fold up the bottom edge of a piece of fabric one inch and press. Then fold it up two more inches, pin, and sew straight across to create a cleanly hemmed bottom edge. Do this for all fabric.

6 Place one piece of main fabric right-side up on your work surface. Place a piece of lining on top of that, right-side down, so that the sides of each fabric you want to show in your window are facing each other to the inside.

7 Pin the top edge of these fabric pieces together one inch down. interliningsSew straight across this line. Flip the fabrics so that the sewn edge is in the center between the two.

8 Measure four inches down from the new top edge. Pin straight across, pinning the lining and main fabric together. Sew straight across, creating a sleeve at the top of the fabric.

9 Thread a curtain rod through the top sleeve and hang your curtain to make sure it is the right length. Repeat the process for the rest of your curtains.
